Methodology
How we measure AI visibility.
Every Share of AI Voice panel on our alternatives pages comes from the same fixed measurement. Here is exactly how it runs.
What we measure
For a fixed set of category questions, we record what each AI answer engine actually says. Three numbers come out of every run:
- Share of AI Voice: how often a brand is named in the answers, as a share of the answers analyzed for that engine.
- Mention rate: the same named rate, per brand, per engine.
- Citation rate: how often a brand's own domain is cited as a source in those answers.
Engines we query
Each question is asked of every engine below, on its own schedule.
How often it runs
Standard engines (ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity and Google AI) run weekly. The heavier models (Claude and Grok) run monthly. Each panel is a rolling 30-day window, so it reflects each engine's most recent runs.
The questions we ask
The full category prompt set is fixed and public, so the measurement is reproducible:

Sample size and honesty
Each brand's Share of AI Voice is measured over the fixed prompt set across every engine, so higher-volume engines carry more weight in the average. We publish the numbers exactly as the engines produced them, unflattered. The point is an accurate read of how AI answer engines treat each tool.
